After answering a few questions about your personal goals, Future pairs you with a 1:1 personal trainer to design fitness routines and weight loss regimens you can do in your own home. Three different BarBend testers fired up the Future app and all of them were pleased with the experience, with each noting that the varied backgrounds of the coaches was a nice touch.
They also liked that a user’s journey begins with a FaceTime call with their assigned coach, which allowed the coaches to take a look at their home gym equipment so they could better customize their workouts. “Future is great in the accountability area,” one tester said, rating this category a 5 out of 5. “My coach certainly held me accountable and they can track what training sessions I completed and which I missed.”
We found the app intuitive and well-designed. Connecting with a coach via chat was never an issue and individual exercises are presented via helpful audio and video demonstrations. “I really think the ease with which you can communicate with your trainer and how clean everything operates is what sets this app apart,” says one of our testers, giving the instruction a 5 out of 5.
This level of personalization will cost you. We’re big fans of Noom’s sleek, user-friendly app, where you’ll see your daily calorie limit and log your meals and activities. Logging can be laborious, but there are no restrictions to what you can log — Noom isn’t interested in policing your diet — but the app will categorize your entries by color, green being whole, non-calorie-dense foods, whereas orange and red are more caloric choices.
“I definitely eat more green foods than orange and red now,” our tester said, giving the instruction factor a 5 out of 5. “Noom also helps me prioritize protein, which was my main concern.”
This program does offer one-on-one coaching options for those who want a little more accountability. At the basic level, we gave this factor a 4 out of 5. You do need to check in daily to log your foods, however, there’s no actual coach tracking your intake unless you opt for a more premium plan.
Noom offers multiple payment options, but monthly and annual plans cost $70 and $209, respectively. That’s an investment, for sure, but Noom’s mission is to help you change the habits that led you to a weight loss program in the first place. What you gain from using the app is meant to stick with you even after you cancel your subscription.

Best Weight Loss Program with Prepped Meals: Factor
With convenient microwavable packaging, Factor 75 can be excellent for time-crunched athletes that want to fuel up with worthwhile meals. The nutritional information is clearly printed across each dish, too, which can be great for counting calories and macronutrients.

For those who don’t love to cook or simply don’t have a ton of free time, a pre-prepared meal delivery service is an excellent choice. After trying Factor myself, I’d give the overall experience a 4 out of 5. I think it’s hard to compete with the convenience and the clearly-outlined nutrition label. It makes tracking your calories and nutrients incredibly simple.
Factor is easy to use both on your computer and the app. You simply create a profile, select your dietary and delivery preferences (how many meals per week). From there, you can scroll through a huge library of food options. I don’t have any dietary restrictions but I like that Factor has options for those following keto or plant-based diets. They also have lower-calorie options and high-protein picks (my favorite).
Actually preparing the meals is really simple. You can use the microwave or oven and the instructions are right on the back of the meal box. I preferred the taste of the oven-heated meals (especially the shrimp alfredo) but in a pinch, the microwave was quick and easy. For instructions, I’d give Factor a 5 out of 5.
I think the meals are pretty fairly priced and I’d give this category a 4 out of 5. The meals range between $11 to $15, which is pretty cheap, considering it involves a whole meal. Typically, I paid around $15 per meal, as I like the higher protein picks, which tend to be pricier.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of accountability with Factor. Granted, you do pre-pay for the meals, so, for me, that’s enough encouragement because I hate letting money go to waste. But as someone who isn’t often tempted by a takeout menu, this isn’t usually a personal challenge. In this category, I’d give Factor a 3 out of 5.
That being said, this isn’t precisely a weight loss program, it’s a meal delivery service. So, for those who need actual guidance on creating a calorie deficit and planning their nutrition, this probably isn’t the best choice. However, for those who may already know what nutritional guidelines to follow, Factor makes it easy to pick and choose different dishes for your goals.

As of this writing, plans start at $10.71 per day, which comes out to $299 per month after factoring in Nutrisystem’s auto-delivery discount. Considering this one is pricier than most other options on this list, we gave this program a 3 out of 5 for cost.
Nutrisystem aims to teach users about healthy portion sizes and introduce them to recipes that can help keep the weight off after they’ve reached their goal and are back to preparing their own meals. You can find those recipes on the program’s NuMi app, which can also provide guidance on what meals to eat on what days based on your weight-loss goals. Considering the meals are delivered right to your door, and the app has excellent educational tools, we gave the instructional aspect of Nutrisystem a 5 out of 5.
While we like the convenience Nutrisystem offers, we do wish the menu had some more variety. That being said, our team does love that this program doesn’t involve counting calories. Just know, however, that sustainable weight loss requires long-term changes.
